Apparently, my first attempt did not actually post. So I’m doing it again. My reaction to the first part of Friday Night Lights is not a good one. I’m reminded of my freshman year where there was no activity beyond sports. The athletes get special privileges that non-athletes do not. (Looking at you, Athletic PE Study Hall, reducing my P.E. class 2nd semester freshman year to five people.) The sports teams still get some special treatment, but nobody ever pays attention to the Robotics team. But this first section of the book really highlights how the teachers aren’t running the school, the athletes are, and putting 16-years old in charge of the entire high school never works. The football players become spoiled, arrogant brats.
